The Palm, Deira - Dubai
It was announced on the 5th of October 2004 by the crown prince of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, that a third man-made Palm Island will be built on reclaimed land off the coast of Dubai's Deirah beach. The Palm Deira will be the largest of the three palm islands covering 14km (8.4 miles) in length and 8.5km (5.1 miles) in width. It will consist of residential property, marinas, shopping malls, sports facilities, and clubs. The fronds are of varying lengths with 150-400 meters of sea between each frond. The crescent, which will run for 21 kilometers, acts as a breakwater and is expected to be the largest in the world. 1 billion cubic meters of rock and sand will be quarried in the UAE to build the land mass of the island. The residential area will be located on the 41 fronds and will contain 8,000 two-storey villas/town houses in three distinct styles - Premier Villas, Grand Villas and Vista Town Homes.
This is the third and last development in The Palm series by Nakheel. The Palm, Deira will merge Dubai 's oldest district with the new iconic image of the palm. Located close to historic landmarks and trading ports of Deira Corniche, The Palm, Deira will be a revolutionary addition to the Dubai 's booming freehold property development market.
Similar in features to The Palm, Jebel Ali and The Palm, Jumeirah, this development will be the largest with an area encompassing 80 square kilometers. The size of The Palm, Deira is larger than Manhattan Island and Paris , roughly comparable to the area of Greater London.
The development will have 8,000 villas, townhouses, and Sunset family homes serviced by top-class housekeeping facilities, and will feature shopping malls, sports facilities, hotels, restaurants, retails outlets, clubs, public services and other luxury amenities. The residential complexes will be complemented by private and public beaches and marinas. Residential units are available for purchase by all nationalities on a freehold basis.
The location is just off the coast of Deira , 1.6 kilometers from the Sharjah border and 4 kilometers from international waters from the tip of the crescent. It is also located 8 kilometers from The World and will add 400 kilometers to Dubai 's shoreline. The surrounding area is home to Dubai 's key heritage sites and is close to downtown Deira.
